Concealed Handgun Classes

10-hour Class…$110 (includes range fee, certificate, and class materials)

To apply for the license online, go to www.txdps.state.tx.us.  There are 14 eligibility questions once you get to the link for “applying for a new license”.  If you have difficulty online, please contact customer service at: 1-800-224-5744.

You do not need to apply first before taking the class.  However, it is recommended that you answer the eligibility questions to ensure that you are eligible for the license.

Fingerprinting
Services………..$10/card

Please note that you must have your passport photos with you and driver’s license in order to get fingerprinted.  You can get your passport photos done at HEB, Kinko’s or a passport photo service. Bring them to the class if you have them.

Notarization Services…..$6/affadavit
There are 3 affidavits required by DPS to be notarized.  You can download them from the website.  If not, the notary public will have some on hand for you to sign.

The CHL class consists of two parts: the classroom section and range section.  It is highly recommended that you take the Beginner’s Handgun Class before taking this CHL class if you cannot show that you are confident in safely handling your firearm.

The class is at least 10 hours long.  Classroom section (8 hours) is held on Saturdays, and the range section (2 hours) is held on Sundays.  Much is covered and therefore it is highly recommended that you bring a notepad and pen to take notes for future reference.  Student handout materials are provided.
